156 international trade fairs planned for 2008 in Germany

The German trade fair organisers are this year planning to conduct 156 international trade fairs in Germany. AUMA – the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry – expects that the numbers of exhibitors and visitors and the rented space at these events – as already in 2007 – will increase by 2 to 3%. Correspondingly it is likely that around 178,000 exhibitors will rent stand space of more than 6.9 mill. mē. Thus, the highest number of exhibitors to date will be registered. The previous record with 174,000 exhibitors was achieved in the year 2000. The number of visitors this year will probably reach a figure of around 10.3 mill.

AUMA bases its positive estimates on the continuing robust demand for investment goods and the forecasts for the retail trade which for the first time in several years are optimistic. It is also recognisable that exporters and importers from abroad continue to bank heavily on the trade fairs in Germany when opening up the European market, because it offers the highest level of internationality of exhibitors and visitors.
