BIOGAS NORD receives orders from Spain

• First successes for Spanish subsidiary
• Contract value estimated at € 6 million
• Construction of first plant to begin in autumn 2008

Bielefeld / Valencia, 18th June 2008. The Spanish subsidiary of BIOGAS NORD AG of Bielefeld, set up just last year, has successfully found its feet on the Iberian peninsula. BIOGAS NORD Espana S.L. has been awarded an important first contract. The customer, DESAROLLOS RURALES EL ENCINCAR, has ordered the construction of an initial three biogas plants. The value of the order is estimated at € 6 million.

Construction of the three planned biogas plants, each with a capacity of 500 kW, should start within the next few months. The plants will be constructed in Cuacos de Yuste and Toril, both in the Extremadura region, and in Los Pedroches in Andalusia. All three plants operate on liquid manure (cattle, pig and poultry manure) and can also utilise maize silage. A sanitation unit is to be built into the Cuacos de Yuste plant to additionally allow slaughterhouse waste to be used.

Following on from the current order, agreement has been reached with project developer Aplitec of Valencia to build a further three biogas plants. The plants will be built in eastern Spain and will also each have a capacity of 500 kW.

"These orders demonstrate that prospects for biogas projects in Spain are good", Luis Puchades Rufino, director of the Spanish BIOGAS NORD subsidiary commented. Spanish law relating to supply very much mirrors the equivalent German legislation, although better rewards for energy obtained from biogas sources are planned. BIOGAS NORD is already in negotiation with a number of Spanish energy providers. "We are well positioned and well staffed in Spain in expectation of the biogas boom", Matthias Kubat, head of finance at BIOGAS NORD AG remarked. "If we receive further orders before the turn of the year, BIOGAS NORD Espana will already be standing on its own two feet in the coming year".
