Sandler AG: annual report 2007

After scoring a sales volume of 112 million Euros in the preceding year, Sandler AG closed 2007 with a turnover of 125 million Euros. This positive development particularly results from the increase in sales in the market segments hygiene, automotive and filtration. The growing demand for substrates for wet wipes lead to a further increase in production on this sector.

In the sector engineering newly developed innovative products were increasingly successful on the market. In the area of filtration, for instance, Sandler benefited from the process of fine mesh filters made of glass fibres being more and more replaced by those made of polyester. The demands on filtration media are especially boosted by the current discussions about fine dust. Finest fibres allow for highest air quality. Thus, Sandler filtration media e.g. are applied for vacuum cleaner bags which are used to remove fine dust from interiors.

Concerning the application area automotive, there is a growing interest in absorber media optimized in weight to save energy. In the hygiene sector Sandler nonwovens provide pleasant conveniences for the end consumer. About 40 percent of all baby wipes available on the German market are made of nonwovens produced in Schwarzenbach/Saale.

In 2007, the worldwide exportation rate accounted for more than 60 percent. More than half of the products are younger than five years.

On the one hand, capital expenditures made in the past are responsible for this success. In 2007, an investment programme of 33 million Euros fixed for two years has been concluded. Thanks to these financial investments capacities could be enlarged and in-house logistics were optimized.

On the other hand, the systematically research and development work as well as the opening up of new markets and applications for innovative nonwovens is a further factor of Sandler’s success. Pre-condition for this are highly qualified and motivated employees, the longstanding quality management as well as an effective training and further education.

Sandler employs 475 qualified people in Schwarzenbach/Saale. The company offers apprenticeship for 7 different kinds of jobs. The good collaboration with universities and research facilities, providing of practical courses, allocation of dissertations for students who want to get a diploma, bachelor‘s or master’s degree, but also research studies have been sparking the interest of young ambitious graduates for many years. The intensity of Sandler’s innovation also shows in the more than 100 industrial property rights owned by Sandler. Many products protected by patents and utility models are being sold with increasing profits. The management board expects the positive course of business to continue in 2008.
